Where has the time gone? It doesn’t seem like it was that long ago when we were setting things up for the annual awards banquet and BAM – now it’s almost June!
The year ended nicely with a Spring Fling week of sunny skies and some great food and events. Then it was Kirkwood’s commencement where Alyssa Tendall, a graduating member of Student Senate did an amazing job addressing her fellow graduates. She mixed in a very serious message about the accomplishments of this year’s graduates as well as some advice for the future. She even ended the speech with a little humor that got a laugh from the few thousand in attendance.
Shortly after graduation our lives in Student Life were changed a bit when we moved our office. We went from the first floor of Iowa Hall to the second floor near Sammy’s Kafe. Though moving up a flight of stairs doesn’t sound all that time consuming, I found a lot of stuff that I had kept over the first two years in this position. I figured out that I had everything but the kitchen sink in my old office, however, moments after I said that I realized I had the sink in my office too. We got everything packed and I said goodbye to my Kirkwood home for the past two years. I left the most unique office on campus (I had cabinets, a countertop and sink, and a closet).
We’ve been in our new location (217 Iowa Hall) for about a week now and everything has been great. Somehow (as if under a magic spell), I have managed to keep my office neat, clean, and organized. Hopefully I can keep on my organization habits of the past week as I move into the future. We’ve been welcomed nicely to the second floor by our new neighbors, the staff of Sammy’s Kafe. They have brought us a handful of treats over the past week which have been a great gesture. We’ve also been welcomed by the several visitors who have stopped by to see the new “digs.” (<- the new word everyone’s suddenly using that I wasn’t aware of).
Now we’re diving in head first into our fall planning of campus activities. Our Welcome Week is set with our annual Movin’ & Shakin’ kick-off event, events at the area apartments, an outdoor movie night, a hypnotist, and more food than a college freshman will know what to do with. If you will be around this fall – GET EXCITED!
If you are around during the summer – stop by, say hello, and check out the new “digs.”
