The month of March has come and gone quickly, but not without some Kirkwood highlights along the way. To catch you up to speed on the month behind us – The Kirkwood Women’s Basketball Team capped off another dream season by winning their FOURTH Consecutive NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP!!!
Earlier that day it was two other highlights, this time from the Men’s Basketball program. The men’s team won their game at the National Tournament for a Third Place National Finish. Just hours before, it was Kirkwood Alum and former NJCAA All-American, Ali Farokhmanesh who made another game winning shot in the NCAA Tournament. This time it was his three point shot with under a minute to play that helped the UNI Panthers to an upset of #1 overall seed Kansas.I guess it’s true; you really can “Start Here. Go Anywhere!” Ali went from Kirkwood to the cover of Sports Illustrated (and every other major news source in the country).
Now the week is flying along as we gear up for our 13th Annual Awards Banquet. Put on annually by Kirkwood Student Senate – it is a night to recognize Kirkwood’s “best of the best”. More than 135 nominations came in during the month of March and the banquet planning committee has narrowed that down to 37 award recipients. These awards go to individuals and groups on campus who participate in extra-curricular activities. From our artist and musicians of the year to our student-athletes and club leaders, we honor several individual students who have added to their resume while attending Kirkwood. We’ll also honor our top athletic teams, top clubs, and outstanding advisors. Our theme is “Light Up The Night” and we’ve got several bright colored decorations ready to go. I’ll try to post pictures soon following the event, but for now – I’ve got to get ready for the 400+ guests who have already gotten their tickets to “Light Up The Night!”
