I'm finally back :)

I realized this morning on my drive to work that I haven’t written anything for the blog in a really long time. I did however realize, that I most likely don’t have many followers or someone would have probably said something about it by now :).

Since this morning, I’ve pondered about things I might write about. I’ve done the “day in the life” posts before and I will more than likely do again, but for today I thought I’d give the quick update on my life in general…

I still love life as the student activities guy at Kirkwood. Though we don’t have as many events in the spring semester, I still keep plenty busy with the clubs and organizations side. We have 60+ clubs on campus and almost every one of them will be traveling to a national competition, hosting an event or speaker on campus, or having some type of campus activity this spring. Our business clubs are gearing up for competitions both regionally and nationally. Other groups on campus have bake sales and are fundraising for things like Haiti Relief and other community service organizations.

As a huge Eagles sports fan, I enjoy cheering on the Men’s and Women’s basketball teams this time of year. - Our men’s basketball team is a regular in the national polls and near the top of the conference standings. Though we currently sit tied for second in the conference, our men’s team has claimed 6 Regional Championships in the past 7 years and finished second at last year’s national tournament. Countless players have transferred to four year colleges across the United States. Last year, Iowa State, UNI, and Iowa all had a player in their starting lineup who began their careers playing at Kirkwood. They are hopeful to make another run at this year’s national tournament.
-Our women’s team is also a regular in the national polls and for the past 8 seasons, they have held on to the top spot in the conference. During the past 8 seasons, Kirkwood has won all 8 Regional Championships, made the national final four 8 times, and won 2009, 2008, & 2007 National Championships (also won by Kirkwood in 2002 and 1997). In that same stretch of 8 seasons, Kirkwood’s conference record is 166-1 with their current winning streak in the conference at 90 games.

On a personal note, I’m getting married in July and my weekends and evenings lately have been busy with wedding planning. From the “save the date” cards to registering for gifts – it can be quite time consuming, but very enjoyable at the same time. I’m lucky to have a girl like my fiancĂ© who is supportive of my job and excitement for Kirkwood. It’s odd to think about, but she lived in the same apartment complex (in the next building over) at Kirkwood for an entire year while we were students and we never met. Ironically enough, it was my part time job in the Student Life office at Kirkwood that eventually allowed us to meet a few years following our graduation from Kirkwood. Why do I tell you this? By getting involved at Kirkwood, you might meet the love of your life. If it happened for me, it can happen for you :)

I’m off to watch our Women’s Basketball team battle conference foe AIB. Go Eagles!
